Sorry for the delay. The TURACOS are fascinating birds, and Diamine’s “Pick Me Up” is a fascinating, mysterious ink that cannot be comprehended in a single day. Today is the (pre-Vatican II) feast of St Maurus, the first disciple of St Benedict. One of my two best friends as a Benedictine monk was Br. Maurus Zoeller, OSB (from Tiffin, Ohio). St Maurus was the first discipline of St. Benedict, and was commanded by the holy founder to run across the surface of the lake to save St Placidus from drowning, which he did. My Novice Master, Fr Nathaniel Reeves, OSB, committed suicide by drowning himself in Lake Placidus at St Meinrad after I left. I had just arrived at the point in prayer where I was prepared and wanted to spend the rest of my life cloistered as a Benedictine monk. Fr. Nathaniel (and G-d) initiated another path for my life. Part of my heart will always be cloistered. But most of my heart is out here in the world. Cheers to St Benedict and St Maurus. Prayers for Father Nathaniel, an alcoholic. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
