11 February – Diamine Black Ivy (& Order Passeriformes)

This may be one of my favorite inks of the year, mostly because it is so well-behaved after some of the inks I’ve been through recently. Under different lighting conditions, there are hints of colors other than black (which you might suspect given the ink’s name), but as you write with it, you think “nice black ink!”. Take a look at the two bottle swatches for different appearances of the same image taken at two different angles. You get a lot of verbiage today because we’ve arrived at the last Order, and man oh man is it ENORMOUS! Read the birds page to find out more, but over half of the avian species in the world are Passeriformes (“perching birds”). This order alone makes it clear why this flyover at the level of Order was just a basic introduction: we can’t possibly understand birds without examining them as FAMILIES! And… that starts tomorrow (when we head all the way back to the Struthioniformes – do you remember what they are?)!
