The Kiowa Tribe migrated south from Montana to Colorado and eventually to the southern plains. In 1867, they were forced on a reservation in southwest Oklahoma. The Kiowa language is in danger of going extinct: as of 2012 there were only 20 speakers (of about 12,000 Kiowa ). Today’s ink is a moderately saturated orange-red.
Noodler’s Kiowa PecanSet’tainte (Satanta) was the last and perhaps best known Kiowa war chief. At Medicine Lodge, he became known as “The Orator of the Plains”.“I don’t want to settle, I love to roam all over the prairies. There I feel free and happy, but when we settle down we grow pale and die.” “A long time ago, this land belonged to our fathers; but when I go up to the river I see camps of soldiers on its banks. These so,diners cut down my timber, they kill my buffalo, and when I see that, my heart feels like bursting; I feel sorry.” -Kiowa Chief Satanta.
