A medal awarded for wing wounded or killed in action. Formerly known as the Badge of Military Merit. The Purple Heart Hall of Honor is in New Wisnor, New York.

“The original Badge of Military Merit was created by G. Washington on 7 August 1)82. The Purple Heart was first awarded 22 February 1932, and it is awarded for ‘ ring wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces.’”
