20 January – Diamine Arctic Blast (& Order Charadriiformes)
Today’s ink was fun to write with, it was pleasant write with, it was smooth to write with: all the good things today! Today’s avian order are the Waders and Allies (shorebirds, gulls, and auks).

19 January – Diamine Silent Night (& Order Gruiformes)
A stunning blue-black ink from the 2022 Inkvent Calendar today, and a most diverse order of birds to begin exploring!
-
18 January – Diamine Olive Swirl (& Order Opisthocomiformes)
A lovely ink from various angles, and just when it is giving straight up olive color. For your linguistic gymnastics today, say “Opisthocomiformes” ten times fast! Or “Hoatzin” – that’d be ok, too.

17 January – Diamine Flame (& Order Caprimulgiformes)
I want to love this color. I do love this color! But once again, it writes very dry. “Caprimulgiformes R Cool” would make a great t-shirt, don’t ya think?

16 January – Diamine Serendipity (& Order Cuculiformes)
Serendipity is a wonderful color: easy to write with, wet, still tough to keep it agitated enough to keep shimmer consistent, but that could be an end-user issue 🙂 Cuckoos… they’re everywhere, though the ones I’ve seen in the United States are pretty hard to find, and I’ve never heard one sing.

15 January – Diamine Pick Me Up (& Order Musophagiformes)
Sorry for the delay. The TURACOS are fascinating birds, and Diamine’s “Pick Me Up” is a fascinating, mysterious ink that cannot be comprehended in a single day. Today is the (pre-Vatican II) feast of St Maurus, the first disciple of St Benedict. One of my two best friends as a Benedictine monk was Br. Maurus…

14 January – Diamine Three Kings (& Order Otidiformes)
A beautiful color reminiscent of the Gold brought by the Magi. And hey… Bustards! (careful, that’s with a “u”). More gorgeous ink and more amazing birds for your Saturday 🙂
-
13 January – Diamine Upon a Star (& Order Pterocliformes)
Perhaps my favorite ink of the year so far (though there are one or two other close contenders). Go make yourself a Velvet Hammer, no matter what recipe you favor, and celebrate St Hilary of Poitiers, nicknamed the “Hammer of Heretics”.

12 January – Diamine Memory Lane (& Order Mesitornithiformes)
Memory Lane had a promising beginning, and faded on me throughout the day. Sadly, I added Lisa Marie Presley’s name to the Calendar of Days just moments ago. Never heard of Mesites? There’s only three species of them, and they’re all endemic to Madagascar.

11 January – Diamine Appletini (& Order Columbiformes)
A frustrating color today: nice shading, though occasionally a dry-writer and occasionally too faint-seeming. Know the difference between a pigeon and a dove? Ornithologically there isn’t one! Read on.
