24 January 2024 – Anderillium Viceroy Butterfly Orange

Sometimes you might be forgiven for thinking a viceroy is a monarch. They are smaller than monarchs, and are known as Müllerian mimics of the monarch, as they are distasteful to predators. It they’re also the last species to be represented by Anderillium inks. There’s one more limited edition ink tomorrow, it I hope you’ve…

23 January 2024 – Anderillium Tolype Moth Warm

I wanted this ink to be more grey than brown, like its namesake, but it does come remarkably close to the subtle shading of this species. Common host plants are cherry, apple, plum, apricot, almond, birch, oak, beech, and citrus trees.

22 January 2024 – Anderillium Rosy Maple Moth Pink

It’s pretty tough to draw this moth with only black and pink, as the species is entirely pink and yellow, so you’ll have to look this one up or use your imagination. This species can be found throughout eastern North America. It is a small moth that prefers (you guessed it) maple trees. It was…

21 January 2024 – Anderillium Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing Butterfly Green

Another great color as we hit the home stretch for Anderillium. The Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing is the largest butterfly species in the world. It is also on the IUCN’s Endangered list, and is restricted to the forests of Oro Province in eastern Papua New Guinea.

20 January 2024 – Anderillium Luna Moth Green

I always think of a Luna Moth as yellow-green, and this ink seems more minty to me, so I’m struggling a bit with this one. But give it a different name, and it’s another lovely ink!

19 January 2024 – Anderillium Banded King Shoemaker Butterfly Blue

Not the male has any blue, and that limited to a shocking strip on each wing segment of an otherwise jet black butterfly of the tropical montaine forests. The ink is leaning towards turquoise, which is just fine by me.

18 January 2024 – Anderillium Atlas Moth Brown

The Atlas Moth is enormous, bigger than a full-grown man’s hand. This brown is quite dark. Ebony brown?

17 January 2024 – Anderillium Adonis Butterfly Blue

And so we begin the final series of inks from Anderillium: the Lepidoptera Series. And we’re starting off with a stunner that perfectly captures the cornflower blue of the male Adonis Butterfly. What a terrific ink!

16 January 2024 – Anderillium Vampire Squid Red

This is actually a small cephalopod that maxes out at one foot in length and resides in extreme deep sea conditions throughout the world’s temperate and tropical oceans. It has bioluminescent organs, and its unique two retractile filaments place it in an order apart from both octopi and squid. It is the only member of…

15 January 2024 – Anderillium Spirula Green

The number of non-disappointing colors just keeps growing! This cephalopod-like creature is apparently frequently found washed up on California beaches (not alive), but there’s a video online of a first sighting alive in the wild in 2020.
