15 January 2024 – Anderillium Spirula Green

The number of non-disappointing colors just keeps growing! This cephalopod-like creature is apparently frequently found washed up on California beaches (not alive), but there’s a video online of a first sighting alive in the wild in 2020.

Such a nice color… why does my camera sometimes tint blue?
It’s way cooler-looking than my sketch 🙂
“Exciting news! This appears to be the first observation of Spirula, aka Ram’s Horn Squid, alive + in its natural environment. Very rarely seen or captured, they have many extinct relatives, but are only living members of genus Spirula, family Spirulidae, order Spirulida.” @SchmidtOcean (posted 27 Oct 2020)
