10 January – Diamine Dusted Truffle (& Order Podicipediformes)
Another shimmering ink today, in a quite lovely brown or champagne color (depending on the angle of your view and the lighting). The Grebes are, surprisingly, cousins of the Flamingos.

9 January – Diamine Cardinal (& Order Phoenicopteriformes)
That’s right: PHOENICOPTERIFORMES, also known as flamingos. Which are cardinal-colored to match today’s ink, right? Kinda? Sorta? Well, not really, but at least it’s close 🙂

8 January – Diamine Jingle Berry (& Order Galliformes)
A truly delightful ink today, partly because after days of “razzle dazzle”, this was just nice, solid ink. The pheasants and allies are up for birds today, all 298 species of them!
-
7 January – Diamine Alpine (& Order Anseriformes)
Today’s ink was a shimmering teal green, and was a pleasant writing experience throughout the day. Our first “bigger” avian order today, the Screamers, Magpie Goose, Ducks, Geese, and Swans make up the Anseriformes.

6 January – Diamine Ghost (& Order Aegyptiformes)
Today’s ink, Ghost, is a standard ink, and a fascinating color (grey is not an easy color in fountain pen inks), though it misbehaved quite a bit throughout the day. Today’s avian Order are the five species of Kiwis. KIWIS!

5 December – Diamine Spiced Apple (& Order Casuariiformes)
Today’s ink is another “chameleon”, and the suspended glitter must be regularly kept in suspension to show up well. Today we also take a look at the Order Cassowaries: four species in two genera that we’ll examine more closely when we get to the Families of Birds, but for today we ponder scientific names! (Two…

4 January – Diamine Spruce (& Order Tinamiformes)
Today’s ink is Spruce-colored AND Spruce-scented. I wouldn’t have thought I’d say this but… it was quite a nice experience. I’m also fairly certain that the person who figures out how to transmit my olfactory experience to you over the Internet will make a ridiculously large amount of money.

3 January – Diamine Solar Storm (and Order Rheiformes)
Today the Diamine 2022 Inkvent Calendar gave us a “chameleon” ink called Solar Storm. It is difficult to photograph and changes constantly in the light. At it’s base it appears purple, but can give a glimmering green cast and a shiny, shimmery gold sparkle by turns as the light plays with it. Enjoy Tolkein Day…

2 January – Diamine Yule Log (& Order Struthioniformes)
Today, the Inkvent calendar brings us a shimmering ink, though I didn’t realize that for a good bit of the writing. Once I got down to experimenting, I put a half day’s worth of ink in my Prera <F> nib, and it’s been a delight to use in my Hobonichi throughout the day.

1 January – Diamine Bliss (& Intro to Birds)
Today we begin a yearlong journey through two passions of mine: ink and birds. Every day I will be writing with a different fountain pen ink. The order of the 365 inks was determined entirely by random draw with the exception of 1-25 January, which will feature the inks from the Diamine 2022 Inkvent Calendar…
